Platform for Colombia

Eleven Dutch non-governmental organisations (NGOs) cooperate in the Platform for Colombia. The platform influences the bilateral and multilateral Dutch and European policy for peace, security and development in Colombia. BBO advises and supports the platform on its strategic lobby approach.

Barometer

For several Dutch NGOs BBO continuously analyses political trends and policy development on specific subjects like ‘religion and development cooperation’ or ‘raw materials’.  BBO identifies opportunities for these organisations to act proactively in their lobbying and advocacy activities.

Analysis on foreign affairs budget

BBO follows the Dutch foreign affairs budget and the European budgets on international cooperation themes. BBO advices on the decision process within parliament and ministries as well as the interpretation of the budget in the context of a year. This enables several NGOs to act in the right place at the right time.

Analysis on climate policy

BBO has offered advice on lobby and advocacy activities for several climate campaigns. BBO interprets international and European policies on climate change. Also BBO identifies opportunities for lobby and communication departments on how to influence international climate policies on deforestation and international climate negotiations.

Professionalising advocacy activities

BBO supports organisations to professionalize the advocacy capacities of their public affairs department. Colleagues from various levels of an organisation participate in a workshop to take their first steps towards a lobbying and advocacy plan. Building on the workshop, BBO advises organisations how to organise their advocacy activities.

Efficient networking

BBO works with a number of networks aiming to influence the policy on international cooperation. BBO helps them to get insight into the actors with influence and advises on how to gain influence on the relevant stakeholders. In a workshop with network partners we make a stakeholdermapping and analyse their network. With this information in hand, BBO can give specific, tailor made advice on their advocacy strategy.

Strengthening the international advocacy with national input

In cooperation with a client, BBO is currently creating a method to develop, strengthen and monitor national and international advocacy activities to be able to influence the priorities in government policy in Senegal, Mali and Burkina Faso. This includes a plan of action to implement specific strategies for each country and advice on how to strengthen the capacities of local NGOs.

Workshop decision making in the European Union

BBO makes political mappings of European Union policies on different themes like development aid on food security. BBO presents the results in a workshop and discusses the possibilities of advocacy for the client. Staff members gain a better insight in the decision making process in the European Union and the political relations within the EU.

A strategic advocacy advice towards the European Union

BBO works with European platforms of NGOs working with partners in the south. The platform’s members are from different member states of the European Union. BBO analyses the European policy on how humanitarian aid is spent and supports the platforms in their advocacy towards the European Union.
